About Poinnari
ಪಯ್ಣಾರಿ ವಿಶಿಂ
Poinnari literally means "a traveller." Beyond its literal meaning, the word carries a deeper philosophical significance: we are all travellers in this world, journeying through different paths, experiences, and generations.
Building upon Ashawadi Prakashan's earlier initiative of digitally publishing Konkani literature through Daaiz, the vision of Poinnari took a broader and more inclusive direction. While Daaiz predominantly focused on Konkani literature in one script, Poinnari was conceived as a platform that would embrace the three major scripts of Konkani: Kannada, Devanagari, and Romi.
The formation of the Progressive Writers Forum in 2014 provided the impetus for this new direction. There was an increasing need to encourage and showcase progressive literary expression across all the major scripts of Konkani, thereby bringing together writers, readers, and literary traditions that had often remained separated by script.
With this vision, Poinnari was launched under the editorship of Valley Quadros on Sunday, 13 December 2015, in Mumbai, marking a significant new chapter in Ashawadi Prakashan's journey of digitally preserving, promoting, and disseminating Konkani literature.
